About
This site was created by a real live Crohn’s sufferer, in an effort to help others who deal with the disease on a daily basis to stay informed and cope with its effects.
Much of the information I’ve written here comes from my own personal experiences with the symptoms, complications, tests, examinations, medicines and surgeries I’ve been introduced to over the years. Crohn’s disease is a difficult ailment, but one that can be managed with the right knowledge about one’s body.
I hope you find the information presented on this website to be useful and informative. My goal is to provide an excellent and up-to-date resource for not only Crohn’s patients, but for the people who love and care for them as well.

I have had Crohns Disease for 36 years and have a little over 24″ of bowel left. My health insurance at work was cancelled due to the economy. I need insurance and having a hard time finding insurance plus reasonable in price. I am 58 years old and don’t know what to do. If I have a flare up should I just go to a clinic or hospital? Any advise would be helpful

My son was diagnosed with Crohn’s in September. His small intestine hasn’t healed. He’s taking 6-MP along with entocort and other medicines. It’s been 8 months and we’ve hit a crossroad. One of our options is to take Remicade or Humira. Does anyone know about these medicines? We’ve done research and there is a chance of cancer with pre-teens and teens taking 6-MP. Any suggestions of what to do?

I was diagnosed at 18 and am now 46. I have had many, many surgeries and colostomy and reversal….etc…I have a 9 year old son. An unremarkable pregnancy. I have been in a remission from crohn’s since 1995. With only 3 hospitalizations for obstructions sice that time and I haven’ t been on any medication ….only while in the hospital or for a month after to calm things down. I have had no pain since 1995 except on those 3 rare occurances. I am gaining in knowledge everyday. I have been most recently taking vitamin D with a calcuim supplement. And am for the first time in my life experiencing regular stools with only occassional diarrhea. Every person who has Crohn’s needs to have their vitamin D checked and look at the new research. Science Daily.com explains the link of vitamin D to Crohn’s disease……we need to all be aware of this. I am also a Registered Nurse and have tried many different things but nothing has helped me more than Vitamin D………It may prevent Chrohn’s disease and at the very least help fight the inflammation, etc……….Try it!!!! Talk to your Doctors……Test your vitamin D level!!!
Who wants to live with Crohn’s disease or just fight the symptoms…..I’d rather prevent it in the first place……..VERY VERY Promising NEWS!!

Hi
I see you that crohns has really affected you life in a negative way and you yourself are very interested in gaining knowledge about crohns. I see the section where you write about treatments for crohns you are missing a new type of treatment being researched. It probbably will never be accepted by medicine as it cannot be patented by pharmaceutical companies.
This treatment is called autoimmune therapy. It uses no drugs, no side effects, is safe.
I had this treatment myself for allergies and now am allergy free.
I know some people who had this done for crohns and now are crohns free. The only limitation of this treatment is it does not reverse any damage caused by this disease.
